I was going to say the same thing as Guy. I admire your persistence to get through all those downed trees. Thank you for a very interesting TR; that is some hard-core bushwhacking you did!

Thanks Peder. You've done part of the South Fork of the Clackamas River. It reminded me of that in some ways, just never made good time going anywhere! Take a step.... slide or sink!

Sweet Sean, appreciate it. You were another one that had eye balled these falls in the past. I think you hike out there by Elk Creek a lot too don't ya? Pretty cool place, I see why you guys keep going back. Lots of adventures abound

Almost forgot!

Anna in boots attempted to get to Idiot Creek Falls a while back. Her and Andy ended up finding a different waterfall on Idiot Creek, not the main one. It looks interesting! It officially is not in the lower canyon where I went, so it must be above the main falls. Guess a return trip is eminent

There are falls in similar terrain on Lester Creek between two rock towers. Also below the trail on a tributary. pt 1660 would be climbable for the bold but we chickened out. Descent from there to the creek is sort of a controlled fall.

Note how LiDAR data shows the old roads in the area. Some are easy hiking others worse than than the surrounding terrain.

Maybe should be posting this in the new map forum, but I'd be curious to know how to get a map like this. It looks to be a very conclusive way to find what I'm looking for.

Good trip report. I do these types of trips often and it's not always worth it, to be honest. But...I get that feeling that I have to get in there, and satisfying that urge makes it worth it. It's just a competitive thing. I have one waterfall that has been burning a hole in me for a few months now that is going to be a huge pain to get in and out of.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'll admit, I don't enjoy canyons like this. Once I've figured out that its gonna be a tough endeavor, I don't stop thinking about getting back to the car. I just want it over. Yes, it sucked down in there! I see why its not more photographed. Another thing is that doing trips like this destroys hiking-wear. I only get a couple of trips out of a pair of boots and rain gear, because of all the abuse they take in places like this. I ruined a pair of rain gear on this trip that id only worn on three bushwacks. All the climbing over 100+ logs tore them to shreds.

Why keep doing it? Something inside just keeps saying 'do it!' I tell my wife that I'm saving the real trails for when I am no longer able to bomb down into canyons such as this one.
