It is, Brian... but it's closed to the public at the moment. You'd have to somehow "not see" the sign along the Wahkeena trail to find yourself hiking this... like Mr. Anonymouse did... of course, signs are easy to miss...

Was up to Wahkeena this past weekend and saw the sign, but on this side of Perdition the sign does not
mention anything about any fines. IIRC, the other sign on the Multnomah falls side mentions fines.

AHA! Thanks for the scoop, Zerek. So the trick is to start the Perdition Trail from the Wahkeena side, then plead ignorance if stopped by a ranger. I might just do that.

or, greg, if you wanted to completely avoid complications, you could start the perdition trail on wahkeena side, then hike it almost to the multnomah side, and then turn around and make it an out and back! i might just do that.

A little mouse told me that you should definitely start at the Wahkeena side as the stairs are much easier to negotiate in an upwards direction!
Re: Perdition Trail by "Anonymouse" (October '06)
I did it a few years back. We worked our way around the stairs, tackled the "cliff" without rope, but a rope would have been nice. I took this shot at the summit.
