White River Falls to Deschutes
Hiked from White River Falls (State Park near Maupin) to the Deschutes River. The falls were lovely, even with the power plant remnants still in place. The entire hike was about 5 miles RT. While there is no trail to the Deschutes, there was a clear footpath or paths the entire way. Sometimes the route passed through brush or over loose rock, but stayed close to the river the entire way.
Great time of year for the hike; sunny, not hot, flowers in bloom.- BurnsideBob

Great pics! Thanks for sharing them!
Last time I was there (5 or so years ago) I remember A LOT of poison oak. Kinda scared us off from returning, ha ha.
Is poison oak still pretty abundant along the trails and paths? And, did you find it was it possible to avoid most of it when hiking? We didn't manage to do that 5 years ago.

Yes, there was poison oak, but we did not have trouble avoiding it.

Plant nerd correction: it's poison-ivy, not poison-oak.

Looks great! Was thinking about doing this a few days ago but wasn't sure how long of a hike one could make from it since I haven't been yet. Was it fairly obvious to on the path you were on? Was there a turn around spot or could you keep going for a bit?

Re: White River Falls to Deschutes
We hiked 5.1 miles round trip, which is from the parking lot to the Deschutes and includes viewpoints. With one exception we could just stay close to the river. The one exception was just downstream of Lower White River Falls, where we hiked up and back down around an obstruction (not far and not difficult).
Looking down the canyon we kept thinking our route might end and we'd have to hike up and around a cliff area, but it never happened. No real route finding, just zigzagging to avoid the brush. We hiked up an easy hillside on the way back to see more flowers.
We did not try to hike along the Deschutes. Don't know if there is a trail by the railroad there.
