Mount Margaret Loop?
Re: Mount Margaret Loop?
You can still go dayhike there without a permit though. I would recommend going in the fall anyway - early September is prime for stuffing yourself with huckleberries as a strategy to slow down your hiking pace.

Amen to that! The huckleberries in that area are awesome. Some of my slowest times are from hikes in the Mt. Margaret area and I couldn't get all that purple berry juice stain off for days.

For what it’s worth, here are some photos from last August/Sept 2020 of the washout area I think you are referring to... I went solo in August and was able to get across. Went again in September with my partner and it was definitely a little worse, so glad I had the extra hand ha. Can’t imagine it’s not going to be even worse after winter unless it’s been repaired!
Re: Mount Margaret Loop?
If I checked the right site there are a few open dates late Sept/early Oct.. Not a bad time to go.
If you need specific dates you might plan an alternate outing during same time period and check the Res sight as you approach your departure date - cancellations do happen, and you might be able to go anyway.

Thanks for the photos of the washout area. Very much appreciated!
Due to the inability to get overnight permits, I'll defer this until later in the year (Sept/Oct) perhaps and choose a Goat Rocks route instead.

Thanks for the updated photos on the washout area. The ranger I spoke to reports it has not been repaired

Since all campsites have been reserved through summer, perhaps an early fall trip will be in order.

Re: Mount Margaret Loop?
It's too bad the trails maintenance funds are so depleted that necessary (or at least desirable) repairs can't be done. The Eliot Creek crossing on the Timberline Trail is a good example. That took years to "patch"
