I wanted to revisit the shortcut to the west side of Sturgeon Rock: Road L-1200A to where Tarbel Trail crosses, then a short walk east to Sturgeon.
I couldn't find my way. Nothing looked right. I was confused. My map didn't help. Then I realized why I was confused. I was actually on the right road, but it was gated. Other access points are also blocked. This adds more than 6 miles RT, and 1800' EG. So instead, I just went exploring in the general vicinity of Tarbell Trail and its fecundity of connectors.

Re: Sturgeon Rock western shortcut: Access Denied
Would you kindly mark the locations of the gate and barriers on a map for me?
Re: Sturgeon Rock western shortcut: Access Denied
I was in the shower, and thought "I wonder if Webfoot will ask about ticks".
Yeah, give me a few minutes.

Black bar is gate. Not sure if it's new, or if they just started locking it. A fellow traveler told me it's been gated for a while, so it wasn't just my bad luck picking the wrong day.
Blue bar is line of boulders. Notice it's extraneous, as one can't drive that far anyway.
Red bar is concrete barrier.
Previously, I drove to Tarbell via L-1200, then L-1210, then L-1200A.
Roads/trails in the vicinity of the arrow don't quite match map, but close enough.

Re: Sturgeon Rock western shortcut: Access Denied
I checked my notes: the black gate was closed when I tried in June 2019, and I haven't been back since.

I always kid you about your teasing law officers at every turn, but I found myself at odds with Dictator Brown's Gestapo forces after a hike today. We went to the Hood River Starbucks after the hike and I ordered coffee and one of their tasty Chonga bagels. I was Oh, how dare me to be old and tired and desiring easier access to my bagel. Oh, the shame of it all. I have forever tainted the family name by doing something so awful as sitting on a chair. What was I thinking? I hope my picture doesn't get tacked up on the bulletin board at the post office.

I drove all the way up in June 2020.
