Pretty continuous snow on the Tarbell Trail at 2,400' above Cold Creek. Mountain bikers are turning at the top of Murphy's Grade. They can't get to the top of the Sixth Sense Trail yet.

I'm tempted to go do that, just to show how it's done. :D

The big advantage is it gets you over 400' higher when you start your hike, nearly 500' above the normal start.
That's an advantage? I can go hike Deschutes if I want to avoid EG. I've got my "winter pounds" that I need to get rid of. I like uphills - as long as they aren't too steep.

change I've seen day to day has been huge, so after the rain and another weekend's worth of hordes descend, it will probably be completely clear next week.
My predictions for the Larch side of the loop clearing up proved a little optimistic, as it's still holding on to a respectable bit of snow. Generally not a problem, but these mornings when it's been below freezing it gets pretty icy. I couldn't see, but from what I heard I think the people traveling behind me this morning went down pretty hard. I didn't hear a big *splash* sound at the end, though, so I guess not as bad as it could have been.

Yeah, was surprised how much was still around when we went up Saturday morning. Found the worst to be around the giant fallen tree about halfway between the bridge and the Wahkeena trail cut-off. We did it no gear, aside from trekking poles with out much issue though. The only time either of us lost footing was me on Wahkeena side coming down. I think I scared a couple that was a bit behind us, because after that, I saw them going back up. (It wasn't even that bad a slip -- just a short slide on my rear)

Ha! At my age, I'll take every unfair advantage I can get!

Those winter pounds are something else, though: You know, of course, what the "19" in "Covid 19" means don't you? I'm lucky, I gained only about ten pounds since a year ago, so I consider myself ahead of the curve. ;)

Bunker Hill, yesterday, Ides of March: No snow at all, even on the summit at 2400'+. Oddly, snow by the side of the roads as low as 800', and seemingly not from being pushed up by snow plows.

It snowed yesterday (Monday) so I was a little worried about my confident boast that I could get to the top of Sixth Sense with my bike. It went well. Then I continued to the top of Larch Mountain at 3500' (that's the Washington Larch Mtn).

Wahkeena-Multnomah is basically clear as of March 15 -- at least, I easily did it without spikes. Snow is really only covering the trail at all under east-facing walls like this going up Wahkeena ..

And like this just below Weisendanger Falls:
