Re: 2020 Snow Level
As I drove on SR 14 over Cape Horn this afternoon it was 36 degrees with wet snow in the air at about 700' elevation. I could see snow sticking on the cliffs above about 1,000' elevation.

Re: 2020 Snow Level
Hiked Table Mtn from Bonneville TH on Saturday. Up to a foot of fresh snow on top.
Re: 2020 Snow Level
Went to June Lake today, 12-17. About a foot of slushy snow at the trailhead, a little more and better up at the lake, but probably could have done it all with just spikes. I put on showshoes at the June Lake Trailhead just for that little more bit of traction. Roads were fine, heard a couple of snowmobiles, made the only set of tracks all day, no other signs of life beyond me and one wren.
Drizzly, no views, and not a gold-star day, but I wasn't at my desk .

I don't see how this could possibly be fun .
Re: 2020 Snow Level
Well, yeah, but some people stand in line at ski lifts. Go figure.
Came here hoping for info, but not much being reported. I guess I'll go take my chances tomorrow, with a Plan B.

We got about 4" in The Dalles on Christmas Day, so that was nice.
Yesterday, hiking near Coyote Wall.

I drove through that! I could only laugh at the circus; there was no point grinding my teeth at the delay. I hiked up Zig Zag Trail #678 and made the first boot prints in the snow. Crowds are a strange phenomenon.bushwhacker wrote: ↑December 27th, 2020, 3:12 pmI don't see how this could possibly be fun .

Re: 2020 Snow Level
I was shocked at how little snow was on Silver Star today (north). Maybe about 6-12"? Never bothered measuring. Well trampled trail, which unfortunately means it was frozen slush in spots, but not quite enough to warrant spikes (I didn't go to the top, but I doubt it was much deeper up there, especially with all the traffic).
Road 4109 was similar to the trail: frozen slush in spots, but people were getting up it. Saw a Jeep Compass at the TH, but the other 9 vehicles were trucks or full-size SUVs.

This winter is quite strange, very unpredictable weather conditions. Therefore, I do not even strongly plan any trips, because plans are always changing.
