Yeah, still doing alpine in November. That's not so unusual - we have some years where the high country doesn't get snowed out till late in the Fall. I went up Shorthorn and then did the short cross country (!) route out to the high point on what I think is Crofton Ridge. There is a faint trail at times, getting well defined towards the end, not that it really is needed. Then I retraced my steps and took the Round the Mountain trail to the right/east for a mile or so, finding a nice spot for lunch. Lots of trees down in the first couple miles up - this must be one place where Adams was hit by the September wind storm. But there was no snow anywhere.

Re: Mt Adams Shorthorn
It was 45 when I got started yesterday at about 10am. And on Shorthorn there really is no shade. That's going to change though. Forecast for next weekend in the alpine is sunny with highs in the 20s.
Re: Mt Adams Shorthorn
I did Shorthorn about 10 days ago. Snow down to TH, and very cold, I think it was 26F when I returned to my car at sunset. Clearly I should have waited for the November thaw.

There's been some very cold days up in the high country. Just depends on which day you go. Fall weather can be pretty variable.retired jerry wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 8:46 amyeah, this has been a great year for autumn alpine hiking
