Mt Hood area trail conditions (Clackamas County)

Post by OregonSurveyor » October 24th, 2020, 8:36 am

Good morning hiker friends!
Because of the massive September 8th windstorm CSAR (Clackamas County Search and Rescue) is maintaining a current map of trail conditions at:
http://sartopo.com/m/GCSF
Our area of focus is Clackamas County and our main concern is wheeled litter travel. Trails shown in Red would be very difficult for a wheeled litter. Yellow is moderate, Green is good and Blue we have no report yet.
If you have first-hand knowledge of a change we’d love to know and I’ll update the map!
Also, CSAR is opening recruiting for SAR volunteers to start training in January, contact me or go to ClackamasSAR.org for information.
Thanks

Why is the PCT between Barlow Pass and Timberline Lodge coded Red? I hiked that earlier this year and it seemed mild and mostly straight.

These are the conditions AFTER the massive windstorm and tree blow downs on September 8th. The map isn’t showing general trail conditions, rather the extent of major damage and fallen trees blocking the trail.

A skier I know says there are about 30 trees down on the PCT from Barlow Pass snow Park to the lower lake

Thanks DayHiker! We had a big windstorm on January 12th, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what brought those down.

A skier who is me crossed all of them last week. Good workout. :)
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.
