Indian Heaven - Lemei Trail - 9/28/2020

Post by AlpenGlowHiker » September 27th, 2020, 12:39 pm

Nothing spectacular like some of the other trip reports. What I anticipated would be an overnight trip turned into a day hike. Mostly because I wasn't "feeling it" for camping in the rain.

The Lemei Trail was in great condition; no blow downs, tread was great. However I only went as far as Lake Wapiki.

Things of note:
* 3 Tent sites at the lake
* At least 2 of the sites are prone to gusts of winds coming off the lake.
* From Trout Lake going West, I took NF 88, NF 8831, NF 24. NF 88 had some potholes but not bad. On the way out I took NF 8821 back to NF 88. This route was good too, but perhaps a few more potholes.

Eh, nothing wrong with a good bail now and then. Especially when it's wet... can be more effort than it's worth.

Thanks for the conditions report! It seems like Indian Heaven came out relatively unscathed from the winds, nothing like on Mt. Hood at least...

A good bail, is the way to go sometimes! Cool report, I'm hitting the trail Tues... can't wait!

We were at Bear Lake on Saturday night, along with at least two other groups. It was very rainy, and quite windy overnight, but we woke up Sunday morning to the clearest blue skies and it warmed up enough to even jump in the lake.

But agreed, sometimes a bail is the best thing.

Two large trees are down on the PCT between Junction and Bear Lakes (a horse group had to make QUITE the detour), East Crater trail is completely clear and in really good shape, along with the road to get there.

Thanks for the news on East Crater trail - I think I'll head up there today.
