Riverside Fire reaches 40,000 acres according Inciweb September 9th noon update

A second day of high-winds and low humidity could continue to drive active fire growth on the Clackamas River corridor of the Mt. Hood National Forest and surrounding private lands. Crews and available air resources will continue to look for opportunities to stop forward growth on the fire and protect life and property. More than 20 engines and crews are currently working to address immediate human life concerns, including working with county emergency management to assess any buildings burned yesterday. The fire remains seven miles from the community of Estacada, OR. This is an extremely fluid situation and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

9/6/2020 Effective immediately, the Sisters Ranger District on the Deschutes National Forest is implementing an increased area closure due to the Lionshead Fire’s very active fire behavior.

Closed Campgrounds: Candle Creek, Lower Bridge, Pioneer Ford, Allen Springs, Canyon Creek, Lower Canyon Creek, Gorge, Pine Rest, Smiling River, Jack Creek, Jack Lake, Abbot Creek and Sheep Springs Horse Camp.

Developed Recreation Sites Closed: Jefferson Lake Trailhead, Cabot Lake Trailhead, Brush Creek Trailhead, Bear Valley Trailhead, Rock Pile Lake Trailhead, Jack Lake Trailhead, Head of Jack Creek Trailhead and Lower Bridge Picnic Area.

Trails Closed: Old Summit trail 4014 north of Booth Lake (T 13S, R 8 E, Section 7), Shut In trail 4019 and the Pacific Crest Trail for the entire length within the Mount Jefferson Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest.

That's from the 6th, when the Beachie Creek fire was just a dot compared to what it is now.

Hopefully with how quickly the fires have spread, there will be many unburned areas within these areas shown in red.

But it doesn't look good...

Not just JP and OC, but also the entire French Creek Ridge/Dome Rock/Tumble Lake/Sardine Mountain area north of Detroit Lake.

Sadly, with these winds, I don't think there's much chance that this was a "good" fire that only cleared out the understory.

The points on that map (on CalTopo.com) come from satellite detection of hot spots. NWCG.gov has similar data in an interactive format — which may be hard on your Web browser.

Yup. Beachie Creek is at 180,000 acres (281 mi²) at last count. It'll probably merge with the Lionshead Fire soon, and the total size will be around 300,000 acres: i.e., about the same size as Multnomah County.

Utterly devastating. Maybe now people will rethink their need to have a fire in the summer? :/ I've got relatives who have evacuated and others who are ready to go.

I agree that August/September fires are stupid, but to be fair, most of the ones burning now were started by smoldering lightning strikes or downed power lines. Not much anyone can do about that.
