Multnomah Falls and more gorge limited reopenings

Post by squidvicious » August 11th, 2020, 10:29 am

Right now you get to line up in the parking lot to visit the lower viewing platform and gift shop. Benson Bridge (and thus trail to the top & Wahkeena loop) remains off-limits. Coming in the next few weeks is an online ticketing system.

HCRH is reopened, with parking restrictions.

According to the Oregonian, Angel’s Rest, Horsetail Falls, and Wahkeena to Larch are also reopened, though this isn't reflected on the FS site yet (not surprising, that was the last to update on the closure as well). Pretty sure Larch below the junction remains closed.

I really wasn't expecting this until after Labor Day, although I guess there isn't an actual "tourist season" to be wary of this year.

The U$F$ is cackling with glee at the opportunity to leverage a public health crisis into the further disneyfication of the gorge. I predict this will be permanent.

It's all being done to provide for public safety... the Forest Service in the Columbia Gorge, said Tuesday."
Indeed, public safety is always the number one priority for the U$F$.
