Mosquitoes in Trapper Creek Wilderness

Post by sheilakpdx » July 10th, 2020, 1:27 pm

Hello - if you have recently been up in the Trapper Creek Wilderness (Big Hollow/Observation Peak area) can you please report on how the mosquito situation is? It seems to vary year to year...many thanks!

I hiked Observation Peak on the 22nd and we were mobbed by the little buggers. Even bug spray didn't deter them completely. Some of them even got me through my shirt. There were still a few small spots of snow, even as low as 3900', so plenty of water for them. That would be gone by now but there's plenty of other water sources up there for them to breed in.
