Jackpot Meadows Trail 492 - 6/11/20

Post by microfoam » June 26th, 2020, 8:16 pm

Not sure how to make an entirely new post, but I’m gonna ping it here anyway.

My partner and I went up to Trillium Lake on our way back from camping in the Ochocos on June 22nd, a Monday.

There were hundreds of humans enjoying the lake so we thought we’d try the trail for a dip in the river.

The trail is gorgeous. So many rhododendrons and beautiful old trees, especially that one big cedar.

However, we encountered nearly 30 blowdowns of various sizes and despite bringing my cordless skil saw in the car, I hadn’t thought I would need it on the trail.

Mosquitoes were moderate depending on being in the sun or not, seemingly.

I do really want to go back to clear the trail and try to scramble down the scree slope in search of good swimming hole along Mud Creek or perhaps even the inexplicably inaccessible confluence of the Salmon and Mud Creek flows.

The water was probably 40°. Bone shattering, in my opinion, so we did not choose to swim here. But the trail was completely deserted except for a couple garter snakes—so hopefully I can clear the trail or perhaps one of you will bring a good saw along too.

A few photos of the jaunt! The scree photo is from the swithcback that overlooks Mud Creek just before it finds its way into the Salmon River.

No. Things aren't back to normal. Kate Brown commands you to wear a mask. Phase progression "paused". Deaths average less than 2 per day. Deaths overwhelmingly targeting blue hairs and gray beards with pre-existing conditions. Only 4 deaths for those under age 50.

Don't kill grandma and grandpa. Stay safe. Stay home. Forever. Save lives. We will all be safe staying at home.

My wife warns me not to use sarcasm

Yeah, I agree, wear mask, and stay away from those crowds

You don't have to wear a mask at home.
