Anyone have any idea who built this little fort? It was built from sand and pebbles and almost as hard as rock. It was southwest of Cook and Green Pass, about 5 miles south of the Oregon/California border.

Yes, and we have them in the PDX area, though rare. I find their nests occasionally. BTW they are harmless, despite their appearance. I grew up with them in south Texas and they never bother people.

Yeah, those things were everywhere back home in SE Texas. We called 'em dirt daubers, not sure why. I was probably in my 30s before I realized "mud" was how the rest of the world knew them.
