Obsidian Limited Entry

Post by marmots & lupine » June 20th, 2020, 10:32 am

Has anyone been in the Obsidian Limited Entry area yet this year? I have a permit for the tail end of June into the first few days of July....Thinking there might still be too much snow this year?? Thanks for any input.

Just over on the other side of the hill, the Deschutes NF is putting the snow level around 6500' with the PCT still under snow.

You still have a week or so, and things melt out pretty quickly this time of year. And if you're not opposed to a bit of snow along your way, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm thinking of trying for Camp Lake this coming weekend, even though it is still under 'deep snow'.

McKenzie Pass Highway just opened on June 15. Probably a lot of snow around Obsidian Falls.
Mt Bachelor web cam of Sisters doesn't look too snowy.

Climbed MS June 20 from Obsidian TH. Tons of snow but melting very fast. Snowshoes from the lava flows on were helpful but not necessary. The lake at 6900' NE of Sister Spring was completely covered - you wouldn't have known it was a lake unless you knew. Mosquitoes were pretty bad at the TH, relatively non-existent elsewhere.
