Hi, new to writing here. Does anyone know how the annual permits (yes, not just the trailhead permit) will be handled for those of us whose permits didn’t expire before the shut down began? Will we be given back those months gratis somehow or is it going to be a case of ‘tough luck Chuck’? Many apologies and much groveling if this has already been discussed; I’ll just throw in a few more Hail Mary’s/Our Father for the thousands I probably have coming my way...
Thanks!!!

I would think "tough luck chuck"
With the NWFP it's always been thinly enforced. You could just use your pass after it's expired for a length of time you think fair.
I do know someone that got a ticket for not having a permit. (Except he actually had one, and it was displayed, the LEO didn't see it). He paid $100 or something.
Discovery Pass is aggressively enforced.

Re: Trail Park Annual Permits
USFS page says if you buy an annual pass now they're punching them to expire in June, and beyond that it's totally at your own risk to order one now. "Nonrefundable" appears prominently in capital letters throughout the page. So I don't expect them to extend anything on existing passes.
A lot of the FS trailheads aren't affected much in the closure timeframe anyway--inaccessible in winter, switch to snopark pass through a lot of that time, don't require a pass until after May 15 (eg, Salmon Creek).

Well, something’s better than nothing.adamschneider wrote: ↑May 21st, 2020, 7:52 amOregon State Parks passes get a two-month extension.
Discover Passes get nothing. Of course.
I didn’t think WA would be human during this as I’ve been sited with a permit in view before, too.
I travel all over during the sno-park season, so I really get my use out of the NWFP.
Thank you to all, you are much appreciated!

Re: Trail Park Annual Permits
That said, if you need to renew your NWFP soon, there's probably no harm in doing it directly at a ranger station, showing them your expired pass that you missed out on using for months due to our shared suffering, and asking very very nicely and politely if there's any chance they might consider punching the new one a couple extra months out. Worst they can say is no.

Keep in mind you only need a NWFP if you use the amenities at trailheads.
