I was thinking of the Elk Mountain hike too. Steep and scrambly although maybe not quite class 3. Good hike regardless.

Having fun scrambling Class 3 is a slippery slope towards bouldering and rock climbing. I know this from experience. I say harness up and go for a climb and leave the scrambles for you approaches.
There's a great scramble in and out of the Owens River Gorge in California. I also recommend getting in your car right now and heading down there for that.

I'm the opposite. Every time I scramble, I think, "god, this is so much less hassle than rock climbing." Keep all that gear away from me!

yeah, same here, class 3 fine with me
if you get some experience on more difficult climbing, then you can back off to scrambling which will become less difficult and more fun
