FS Gorge Sustainable Trails Survey due November 7

Post by chrisca » October 31st, 2019, 12:14 pm

The Forest Service has finally issued a survey to the hiking community that was previously circulated among "stakeholder groups." This is your chance to comment on what you want to see in the Gorge trail system, but it's under a very tight deadline. Find the PDF at https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 670289.pdf, which contains a link to an online version. I'm amazed we haven't seen much promotion of this survey by WTA, TKO, Friends of the Gorge, Mazamas, Sierra Club, PCTA, etc. who I assume all were contacted. It's sad these groups consider themselves our representatives, yet they don't consult with us on trail issues. Please be sure to add a comment to your submission on this observation.

While many of the multiple-choice questions are on the lame side, there's ample space for write-in responses where you can voice your opinions.

Thanks!

I filled out online version

my comment at the end "encourage people to use the area, provide enough parking, improve trails to meet demand, don't worry that it's crowded at times"

futile I know :)

Thanks for the notice, Chris! It's amazing how many of these comment venues appear to not be advertised to the public. As you note, it is extremely disappointing if TKO and the other groups were aware of this "stakeholder group" survey and did not pass this information to their constituents. :x

When? If this has been known about for a while, I'm surprised that with all the ongoing discussion of permits etc these days, this didn't come up here earlier. (Unless this forum is vestigial and this has already been extensively discussed in social media.)
