I was thinking of the Elk Mountain hike too. Steep and scrambly although maybe not quite class 3. Good hike regardless.

Having fun scrambling Class 3 is a slippery slope towards bouldering and rock climbing. I know this from experience. I say harness up and go for a climb and leave the scrambles for you approaches.

There's a great scramble in and out of the Owens River Gorge in California. I also recommend getting in your car right now and heading down there for that. :D

I'm the opposite. Every time I scramble, I think, "god, this is so much less hassle than rock climbing." Keep all that gear away from me!

yeah, same here, class 3 fine with me

if you get some experience on more difficult climbing, then you can back off to scrambling which will become less difficult and more fun

You could always free solo. :P
