Hi Greg,
Your photo of that waterfall brings back a great SAR story from June 2017. Two young ladies from Oklahoma were NOBO on the PCT, hoping to go from TLL to White Pass. After leaving the Paradise Park area and heading down to Ramona they missed the first hard left turn and inexplicably thought they needed to go tumbling straight ahead down that steep, sandy slope to the river (just upstream of that falls).
Very interesting, I could see how that could happen. I had to scold my dog for probing to far over the edge. BTW - I'm reading “The Last Season”, essentially a SAR story about NP Ranger Randy Morgenson.

Opening pic is fantastic. Had a little trouble placing it, but then realized I went to the bottom of that waterfall last year. Possible I've never been on that section of trail though.
So how did you get to that waterfall. The photo is taken from the trail coming down from Paradise Park. But that area behind the waterfall looks intriguing and I would probably want to check it out someday.

Where the PCT crosses the Sandy, I followed the river upstream to that tributary canyon, and followed it up to the falls. Pretty straightforward.

Interesting story about that rescue. I don't remember hearing about that.

Good story Jerry as you are the man. Getting off the trail has consequences around the mountain.

I think you're on call next time. Maybe 40 pounds or so? Not sure what type of line they use.

It was multiple ropes tied together. Several ~100-150ft ropes, a few 300ft ropes, etc.

When people's lives are in the balance, you use climbing rope, not something like paracord. 950 feet of climbing rope is heavy!

Back in my climbing days, a 165 foot rope designed to hold long climber falls weighed about 8 or 9 pounds. Not sure if that has changed or if they used lighter rope for rescues.

Great report! Would you say its relatively clear of snow and safe to hike from Timberline to Paradise Park?
