Overnight Solo Backpacking
Overnight Solo Backpacking
Hey guys, I’m around the Bend area and was wondering if anyone on here knows a good overnight backpacking route! Also, any tips and trick are welcomed! Thanks!!!
Re: Overnight Solo Backpacking
Just pick a trail and go! Just remember there is still quite a bit of snow in the mountains (although it's melting fast) and the mosquitoes are out. Bring a head net.

It's true that the "Bend area" is exceptionally rich in backpacking opportunities. Is your time frame "right now"?
If so, the snow level will heavily influence your choice. It may be best to choose a hike where the terrain is about 2/3 melted out, if you want to avoid the worst mosquitos. If you are able to withstand some snow, or don't mind mosquitos, your choices are multitudinous. Since most members here are not Bend area residents, it may help for you to consult a ranger station about local conditions as of NOW, along with your general preferences for distance, elevation gain, fishing opportunities, etc.
If your time frame is "sometime this summer", say so, along with what your most enjoy in a backpack, and we'll get back to you.

As a Bend resident who just went backpacking last weekend, trails are melting out fast and the mosquitoes are heinous right now.

Just a hunch, but heading east toward the Mill Creek Wilderness might be a good respite from the mozzies, being drier and all.
Otherwise, as has been said, surrounding yourself with a bit of snow will definitely help. Maybe up the Cabot Lake trail toward or beyond Carl Lake would be a good candidate.
I spent two nights at Square Lake a couple weeks ago and it was very nice. There was enough of a breeze off the lake to keep the mozzies at bay except in the early morning and late evening. But with two more weeks of warm weather it would most likely be awful without a breeze.
