Sleeping Beauty tick warning

Post by Nosaltjustlime » May 23rd, 2019, 10:17 am

Headed up there for a sunrise hike this morning and found some ticks crawling on us while we had a snack on the summit 😬 Might want to make it a warning 🤙🏼

Thanks for the heads up.

Glad you weren't bitten... you would've had to change your username to "nosaltjust(lyme)".

#*)&! I didn't think they had made it that far. Is there no haven from these damn things?! Thanks for the warning. :( I updated the page.

The Field Guide mentions ticks. It doesn't seem like a good place for them though, wonder what the deal is.

Was there snow up there, I'm not paying enough attention to have any idea what the snow situation is right now.

Permethrin is your friend. I bought a big jug on Amazon and spray it on my shoes and the bottoms of my pant legs. No ticks yet.

(I blithely ignore the warnings that you shouldn't spray it on your clothes while you're wearing them.)

I've had half dozen tick bites the last couple years

It was the times I didn't use Sawyer permethrin

My thoughts too. It's just not right when tick habitat overlaps mountain goat habitat!

I've been to Sleeping Beauty once, exactly three years ago, on a freakishly hot day (100+). No ticks on Sleeping Beauty, but picked up a few at Falls Creek Caves.

Oh, almost forgot, I too endorse permethrin.

I picked up a tick on Mt Adams at around the 3500 foot level a few weeks back.
