Cape Perpetua - Easter Escape Hike

Easter Sunday morning we started with a wonderful power-breakfast before heading out to complete the Cook’s Ridge / Gwynn Creek Loop hike in the Cape Perpetua Scenic area.

Only a couple cars parked at the trailhead when we started by 10 am and head promptly UP the ridge trail. Immediately we entered the peace and tranquility that is the result of getting your boots dirty.

Only the cool coastal air, bird song and our own breathing kept us company for the first mile. Then a few random other hikers coming back from.... On up the ridge to the junction with the Gwynn Creek trail and then turning back and the longer and gentler grade down along the creek with the subtle call of the water getting louder as we made progress down along the trail. Wandering by so much moss, trilliums and fiddlehead ferns – low and high in the trees.

Another junction with the Pacific Coast Trail north and the return to the visitor center. But we got distracted along this short connector by a few great views of the coast and crashing surf with Thor’s Well and Spouting Horn putting on great shows of spray!

The grand finish for the day... a fabulous seafood dinner and house made ice cream at Ona’s!

Ya just gotta love the Oregon Coast!
