Got a late start Friday and camped about 6 miles up. This morning continued up to the Herman Ck crossing, 8 miles in. Hit fairly continuous snow just before that. Cedar Swamp is melted out and open for camping. Got rained on the last half hour today before getting to the TH.
Herman Creek
Re: Herman Creek
Interesting. I would have gone up there Friday or Saturday if the weather was better. (It wasn't awful, but I'd rather wait.) I'm surprised the snow is that low, but more importantly, that Herman (east fork) crossing looks unpleasant. Considering my goal was Mud Lake, which probably isn't anything special, I think I'll consider something else for my next hike. Thanks for the report.
Re: Herman Creek
There is a huge log a ways up stream that can be used to cross the east fork if that is what is holding you up. I'm sure the snow will get deep fairly quickly on that side of the canyon. With warmer weather coming later this week, water levels probably aren't going down soon.

I think I'll wait a few weeks, plus maybe the weather will get better
snow level is going up though, there's hope
I haven't been up there since fire
