The photo sharing utility flickr is moving to a paid subscription model Jan 1 2019. Free accounts will continue but will be restricted to the 1000 most recent photos.
Sooooo, if you use flickr to host the photos you use on OregonHikers, your posts may go dark.
Admins, Martell, would it be possible to write a script that would copy flickr images to the OregonHikers server(s) and rewrite the addresses inside the posts to access the images on OH servers??
Best,
Burnside

I keep making protein shakes but they always turn out like margaritas.
Re: flickr photo sharing utility changes
A shame but not unexpected, Flickr was purchased a while back by Smugmug. I guess this change was inevitable. I'm guessing it will probably move more people into Google Photos.

Not necessarily; Google doesn't give you unlimited free storage either.
Re: flickr photo sharing utility changes
I think it does if you are willing to sacrifice the original then photos don't count towards your limit. Don't know for sure though as I'm a Smugmugger.adamschneider wrote: ↑December 5th, 2018, 9:46 amNot necessarily; Google doesn't give you unlimited free storage either.
Re: flickr photo sharing utility changes
Google Photos is free unlimited if you keep your photos below 16 MP.
You can set it so everything gets resized to that when you upload it so it's mostly ok. I'm sure they use their perceptual jpeg compression on them too so they may lose some quality, but for online it's good enough.
