I have not found young owls in a nest. Cool!

Amongst the ancient firs and cedars
And countless logs a rotted
On mossy limb a bird he teeters
A stoic owl that's spotted

A barred owl came to our backyard on July 4 of this year. It stayed for several hours until dusk came.

Did it cook for you all before it left?

It expressed no curiosity about our cooking arrangements. ;)

Looks like a Northern Pygmy Owl. They toot toot toot like a squeaky swing set, and hunt during the day.
Thank you! I wondered what could be so small, and that one didn't come up in my search. Looks like a match indeed, to my untrained eye.
