9x Dog Mountain

Post by tschalpi » June 11th, 2017, 6:54 am

After 4 unsuccessful attempts since 2016 to beat my old 8x Dog record, I finally managed to get 9 climbs done yesterday. I started a 7:30pm on Fri, Jun 9, 2017, and it took me 16:24:30 for the 9 climbs. The average roundtrip time per climb was 1h49min (that includes the refueling times, breaks, etc.).

To the best of my knowledge, this presents a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) for both 8 and 9 climbs. In fact, as far as I know, no one has ever done 9 climbs. Of course people have done single, double, or more Dogs faster than I did, but that’s not the criteria here.

I feel I have seen enough flowers for a while :D!

That's absolutely nuts! What an accomplishment! Even for ultra that's an exceptional elevation gain/loss, isn't it? I don't understand how you survive the cumulative descent, even if you have the heart of a lion going up.

That seems like a record that should be safe from being broken for quite some time. :o

That's crazy! Gotta love the commitment!

I fully expect a South Sister report like this in one month! (or Mt. St Helens even better!).

Good lord. I hope you had books on tape or something!
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

Or maybe to avoid the flip-floppers as much as possible. ;)

WOW! Very nicely done. Those tracks are crazy regular.

This was my thought too - easy to get stuck behind a clump.

I do not know whether to congratulate you or recommend a good knee doctor.

You are in better climbing shape than I have ever been. I would think that sections of the PCT would be less boring than checking out the same flowers every two hours.

That's quite an accomplishment.

Your slowest round trip of 1:49 (when you past out for a while) is about the same as my best ever time for Dog 1X :)
