There was a comment from yesterday in the trail register that now appears to have been referencing this incident. I think it was also associated with the can of Rainier left in the canister...

It would be interesting to get a better handle on the circumstances. Where did they find that much snow (off trail? In the shadows on the way to Elk?), and at what point in their hike did they make the initial distress call? Regardless, always happy when there's no tragedy.
