For a few years now, GPS Visualizer has had a page nicknamed "The Sandbox" where you can draw tracks and waypoints on a Google Map and save the results:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/draw/
But now there's a very useful NEW feature, one which has been requested many times: you can import a GPS data file into the Sandbox, and then edit and re-save the tracks/waypoints contained therein. Or you could "trace" a new path over the previous data.
URLs that point to files are supported too — this includes driving/biking/walking directions on maps.google.com (example: http://goo.gl/maps/T3wyh).
The import feature uses GPS Visualizer's normal file conversion utility, so ANY type of file is supported (and auto-detected)... it's not limited to GPX or KML.

Thanks Adam. At the end of hikes, I often forget to turn off the device. So far my solution has been to delete the tails by opening the gpx in a text editor. Of course, I ought to just write a script that deletes points that are faster than 5 mph.

I forget if you run Windows or not, but if so you might like this too - http://www.gpstrackeditor.com/ - which offers speed filtering as one of it's clean-up functions.mcds wrote:Thanks Adam. +1 for GPS Track Editor. It is the first program I've used that does a good job cleaning up tracks automatically. It almost never loses detail that I need, while cleaning up all the "stops" where the GPS jumps around. On a hike not too long ago, we "hiked" almost .2 mile while we were eating lunch!kepPNW wrote: I forget if you run Windows or not, but if so you might like this too - http://www.gpstrackeditor.com/ - which offers speed filtering as one of it's clean-up functions.

Adam, I use your GPS Visualizer frequently to convert Google Maps routes to KML. Is is possible to do the same for Bing Maps?

Not overtly, but it's possible with a little snooping behind the scenes.Webfoot wrote:Adam, is it possible to save KML data from this map?
