YAECTR - 1.15.17 Eagle Creek

Post by Eric Peterson » January 16th, 2017, 8:16 am

yet another eagle creek trip report

Inspired by Don's excellent trip reports I went out yesterday, just had to see this. Bucket list sort of thing, only ever been to EC with a smattering of snow and a few ice sicles.

Documented a few interesting ideas along the hike -

The best idea of the whole day:

Someone hiked back to their car to get this rope, came in super handy but I didn't like how saggy it was:

Crossed it all sagging to the ground with micro spikes and got my heart racing, seemed like the ice was just a bit much for little micro spikes. Tightened that sagged up rope after crossing.

Fixated with this rope idea -

Rest of the hike was rudimentary.

Checked out Tish Creek bridge and the trail peeters out about 1/4 mile further. Wanted to see Tunnel Falls but oh well.

Great photos! Particularly the 5th from last one. I look at these photos (and the ones Don just posted) and I have to ask is this the Columbia Gorge or somewhere in northern Canada! Looks like you guys have been/are being pounded by winter! Here is Southern Oregon it's all Hawaiian shirts and parasol drinks, but that's another story... ;)

Excellent TR and photos! Nice idea to have a rope on that crux move along the cliffs. Why didn't I think of that!?

Didn't Medford see a big snowstorm and lows in the single digits recently?

Hmmm, well, yes, now that you mention it. But that just made those parasol drinks all that more essential! :)

Helps the rest of us who haven't hardly left the house in six days feel like we know someone who did something.
