The other eagle creek road closed

Post by greenjello85 » June 4th, 2016, 8:42 am

The road going to the salmon-huckleberry eagle creek trailhead is closed for logging. The road is also in really bad condition before the closure. Much worse than last year. It passes through another active logging area before it is closed all together.

Do you mean the one at 45.302, -122.136?

I don't have the coordinates but it's the trailhead off Harvey Rd in Estacada. Closed a mile or so before the trailhead.

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks. Hopefully when the log trucks are done ripping up that road they also regrade it.

Yikes, I was hoping to hike that trail today! How is it they can close the access road to the trailhead? Aren't there rules about allowing public access to a public trail?

If there is a significant safety hazard then the FS is allowed to close roads or trails to the public. That doesn't man we have to like it when they do. :(

@ Aimless -- that makes sense. But shouldn't it be posted online somewhere? I did a pretty extensive search including going to the BLM site, but didn't turn up anything about the Harvey Rd closure.

On a related note, I read that some of the timber holdings are (were) property of Longview, now named KapStone. I couldn't find a listing or map of their holdings.

I was up there a month ago, so it might be open again by now? It would be nice if road closures were kept more up to date. The Clackamas ranger district lists possible logging closures or delays on nearly every road. Clearly they aren't logging every road, so the information is useless.

Good point...

The roads table here doesn't mention Harvey Rd, so maybe it is back open.

Nope, as of 7/5/16, road is still closed about 1/3 mile before trailhead. Active logging area. I'll post a separate trip report soon with more details.
