How to search for "an exact string of text"?

Say I want to search for "Fall Creek" without seeing all 481 returns which contain the word 'fall' or 'creek' ? I don't see a way to do that in the search interface, but it must exist.

(And on another note, searching in a particular forum didn't work for me; it said the board didn't exist...)

Click on Search. At the top of the search page is a Google Search box (different than the regular phpbb search below it, and it generally works better). Search for "Fall Creek" in quotes. You'll still get a lot of results, but you should only get pages which exactly match the phrase.

It's always funny when I type in "Falls Creek Falls" and it says, "Your search returned 0 results" "Words ignored: "falls" "creek" "falls"

note: I always thought it ood that the phpp search only works occasionally and only 1 time if it does at all if not logged in

Yeah, I think this entire site could use a massive redesign. It's such a fantastic resource marred by far too much visual distraction, and the parts (such as search) that don't work. I'd love to help out with a design audit...

We've been planning to upgrade to the newer version of phpBB which is a major update. I had hoped to do it sooner, but it hasn't happened yet.

I'm not sure if they put in any improvements to the search system, but I'm gonna guess that Google's search is always going to be superior to whatever the phpBB devs do.

The reason "fall" and "creek" don't work is because the way the search works is it creates an index for every word of every post. It ignores a certain percentage of the most common words, to keep the database table from becoming huge. On this site "fall" and "creek" fall into that category.

It works better to be logged in, because there is a flood control setting on searches which limits the frequency of anonymous searches.

If we're talking wish lists, can we add a searchable feature under 'Find a Hike' that returns 'Uncrowded' hikes? The 'Crowded' feature just isn't a viable search term for me

Except 'Lost' usually equates to sketch and we tend to avoid that
