Broken Bench on Sherrard

Post by kepPNW » July 5th, 2015, 10:15 am

Someone broke the backrest off the first bench on Sherrard Point, and (at least) left it lying there.

Was told it was intact on July 3, but "there was a real rowdy group up here!" that day.

Alrighty then...the bench has been repaired. Someone came in after the initial damage and did us the favor of chucking the seat back over the fence. Much appreciated :x . It was super heavy and super steep to get at.

Really takes a special breed of asshole to do something like that! Makes ya want to just lock the snow gate year round, huh?

So...the story is not over. Last weekend (Aug 1-2) someone destroyed both benches and took all the good parts. We put up a temp bench of plywood for now. This goes along with tagging at the Wahkeena restrooms. So much for "leave no trace!"

This is very sad news. I just don't understand why people feel the need to spoil things for everyone else. When stuff like this happens it can lead to things not being replaced at all, it is easy to understand when operating with limited resources. If something is constantly being vandalized it eventually makes no sense to throw more money at it. Makes me angry.
