The latest in Photo Outdoor Toys

Post by flixter » May 13th, 2015, 1:43 pm

Before you buy a GoPro or any Quadcopter puchase, check out LILY,
Here is the youtube video link and website link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YLxGFLpOl0

Web Link is https://www.lily.camera/

FYI: Cost $499 US and is waterproof also.
If Dogs and GoPro's are allowed on outdoor outings will Lily be allowed?
Just a thought......Pnwhiker

On one hand, this is a cool toy. On the other hand, this seems to signal a new high in narcissism. These days, everyone seems to want to be the star in their own movie. I predict a spike in sales of slingshots as these things start to appear in public places.

Well it's way cooler than GoPro footage, if you ask me. The 20-minute flying time could be a limitation, but it'd be pretty sweet to do just a 1-minute "loop" around yourself when on a high point, like Barrett Spur or something.

I'd so wanna be there when someone chucks it off a 1000 foot cliff and nothing happens.

Me: Bummer dude. But there's this guy who found Reese Witherspoon's boot so he might be able to help.

I keep hearing that, but knocking one of these out of the air with a slingshot will be expensive if one gets caught.

The other issue is that they are prohibited on national forest land.

I think they're prohibited in National Parks, but allowed (for non-commercial uses) in National Forests -- except in Wilderness areas.

I wonder how well it navigates around potential hazards like tree limbs or power lines?

Yes, I see that. This is a change from previous guidance. I am pleased with this.

I'm guessing not very well. The video seems to only include shots where this would not be a concern, certainly not a coincidence. I'll bet a small portion of my broccoli that many buyers will not consider this.

On the other hand, I also expect this will make for more cringing videos on YouTube in the coming years. Imagine stunts of all kinds that end up in failure caught from better angles.
