Mt Hood in your beer

PORTLAND — Most people looking into the bottom of a beer glass see the flat bottom or perhaps some suds.

But an Oregon company formed by three designers who love the outdoors has designed a glass with a mini-Mount Hood on the bottom. It uses U. S. Geological Survey data to mold the features of the mountain in the bottom of the glass handmade at a glass-blowing studio.

They call it the Oregon Pint.

KGW reports North Drinkware asked for $15,000 on Kickstarter to launch the project. It has received 10 times that amount from people who want their own pint-sized Mount Hood.

Unfortunately these inconsiderate dirtbags used the wrong name for the glass . Clearly they should have named them "Portland Pints" so the sensitive and easily offended SW Washingtonians wouldn't feel all butthurt and excluded from reveling in their glory as well! 8-)

I was tempted but $35.00 was a bit rich for my clumsy beer drinking hands.

Plus a true pint glass has to be 20 & not 16 fluid ounces eh ;)

They also didn't make it clear whether the 16 oz volume is before of after they put the model of Mt. Hood in it. My coworker and I were discussing this, and a very haphazard calculation (judging by measuring the photo's proportions with our fingers!) would indicate that the Mt. Hood model displaces ~ .8 oz of volume, meaning it would be a 15.2 oz pint! ;)

I definitely purchased two. What a better way for our area to market Mt. Hood to the people outside of Oregon? Honestly though, the 3D imagining that went into the design of these pints is pretty neat. I'm looking forward to getting mine.

Maybe it's just me, but for $35 a mug, I would like my Mt. Hood to look less like Adams.

Yeah, but after enough drinks it will look like the prettiest Mt Hood you've ever seen.

sgyoung:

After enough drinks, I can place my mug on a 25-cent postcard and think it's the $35 mug, but saved enough money to pay for the beer I just consumed :)
