Soda Peaks Lake

Post by drm » May 15th, 2014, 11:43 am

Overnighted at Soda Peaks Lake. The trail up from Government Mineral Springs is melted out. Just a few areas of patchy snow in the last quarter mile to the lake. All of the campsites are also melted, though the south and west sides of the lake still have snow on the shore. And the lake itself is still 90% frozen over. It was in the mid-70s going up the big hill yesterday and dropped into the upper 40s last night.

Recent upgrades to the Trapper Creek Trail (I was on the trail gig last weekend)

The new bridge across Trapper Creek for the trail to the lake. Remember that you now use the Trapper Creek trailhead, not Iron Mike

Where you head uphill, nature has cooperated for once in creating a rather huge blockage from going the way of the previous trail (left on the fork)

Cool! Thanks for the report. I'll be headed that way for Memorial Day.

Totally. In fact, no snow all the way up to Observation Peak now. Saw some on the higher slopes of Soda Peaks yesterday, but not a lot.

Great overnight. Went saturday. Trail completely clear of snow to the lake. Some small sections on the trail North of the lake but not hard to navigate. Beautiful destination. Also, check out Backwoods brewery in Carson on your way back to HWY 14

Nice report drm. I still haven't been to that bridge you've posted about a couple times but I appreciate the heads up about the iron mike situation.
