Memaloose Hills floral fireworks 5/3/14

We took a 3-mile ramble through the Memaloose Hills on Saturday, and the flowers were busting out all over.

:D Beautiful photos! Memaloose Hills is not in the Field Guide. What's the best way there?

It's not an official marked trail, but it's easy enough to follow once you find it. It's Hike 87 in Scott Cook's Curious Gorge guidebook. Take 84 to the Mosier exit, then continue east on Hwy 30 for 3 miles to the Memaloose Overlook on the left. The trail starts across the road from the overlook. Check my GPS track for more details.

Also, check Bobcat's and Cheryl's TRs for a more extensive hike in the area.

The holy trinity of Balsamroot, Lupine, and Paintbrush in full, soaring glory. Your pictures really did say it all. I'm so incredibly jealous you got to experience it live, and so incredibly grateful you shared it with us. Thank you, thank you!

There's way more paintbrush at Memaloose Hills than other eastern Gorge flower spots... I wonder why.

Thanks for the tip! My wife and I went to check it out this morning, and it was fantastic.
