Benson Bridge closure

Post by trailupdater » January 9th, 2014, 10:24 am

Starting immediately, the iconic Benson Bridge will be closed due to severe damage from a fallen rock. Larch Mountain trail #441 (aka "Multnomah Falls trail") will be closed from the Lodge to the Gorge #400 trail. Engineers will be assessing the damage.

Ooooh. That must have been a heck of a rockfall!

For those wanting to hike up past there, you can still get up to the Larch mountain trail by starting either at Wahkeena or at the small pullout between Multnomah and Oneonta, where you can hop onto the 400 and meet the Larch Mtn trail above the bridge.

With the amount of rain projected to fall in the next 48 hours, I fear a few different trails will be impacted like this. Stay safe out there, everyone.

and people laugh when they see us hiking with helmets on...

Is it bad that I really would have liked to have witnessed that?

Not bad at all Lurch. I would have liked to also witness the huge boulder that sheered off in there some 20
odd years back? DN would know the year off the top of his head I bet :)
