Herman Creek to Dry Creek Falls

Post by ExplorerTim » January 5th, 2014, 7:09 pm

Starting from the Herman Creek Trail, taking the Bridge trail, then up to the PCT out to Dry Creek Falls. Did this out and back hike today, it seemed like a good destination that was low enough to be free of ice, yet provided some interesting scenary. As I suspected, the trail was frozen, but no slippery ice. I have it at 9.15 miles with 2015 elevation gain.

Welcome to the forum, Tim - nice report! For some reason, I have never hiked the section from the bridge to Pacific Crest Falls -- it's on my list, now! Good idea for winter hiking.

Tom :)

Anyone know if this is a good hike for camping overnight?

Rather than hiking to Dry Creek Falls - freeway and railroad noise

Hike up Herman Creek Trail:

Herman Camp is about a mile - you have to know where the spring is

Casey Creek is maybe 5 miles

Cedar Swamp is maybe 7 miles

other places

If you take the Herman Creek trail to the Casey Creek junction, there's an excellent campground, with a use trail heading downhill to Herman Creek.

I've walked down that trail from Casey Creek campsite to Herman Creek.

Rather overgrown.

Very nice campsite there, but sort of claustrophobic, so I walked back.

Great idea for a hike under 10 miles with some nice EG too!

Been looking for shorter RT hikes like this, thanks for posting :)

Good point. The creek's also a little further down than I expected.
