No frozen waterfalls were melted in the making of this TR.
Today looked like it was the last chance for clear & sunny until maybe next week, so, once again, I shirked my corporate responsibilities and snuck out for a restorative hike. Needed some place close and quick, so obviously Devils Rest. Fog (some frozen) in town but by the TH, clear, cold, and sunny - bluebird!
Trail was clear with only 2-3 icy patches.
Was rewarded at the boulder field with a big view of town and some interesting cloud formations.
Sunlight in the snowy woods - nothing better!
Went past Devils Rest to the best viewpoint this side of Larch - to see Silver Star and St. Helens,
and Table and Adams.
Then a deviled egg sandwich for lunch (of course!) and back down to my corporate fate. Keep smiling!

FINALLY a report without frozen waterfalls..!!
Nice photos, Van - but I do have a waterfall question for you: could you see ice buildup on Foxglove Falls by any chance..? I was thinking a winter freeze might be the perfect time to really pick out the outlines of that little mystery.
Thanks for posting!

I was in those parts yesterday, too. Only I skipped the frozen waterfalls and went for the snow-covered Christmas ornaments.
getting in the spirit...
And followed this guy for a couple of miles...
I hiked that road behind Devil's Rest for the first time to make the connection between Devils Rest and the Basin. It was a great day for a hike!

Love how we get to see the traces of their passing in winter.

I frequently see Mountain Lion tracks in winter snow
If there's no snow, they're probably still walking around but I just don't see them, they're rather shy, and watching us

Sorry for the late reply (working ). But I don't recall Foxglove Falls - probably toast now with the warming weather.Splintercat wrote:FINALLY a report without frozen waterfalls..!!
