Goat Rocks/White Pass/Chinook Pass area is all snowed in (as of Sunday 10-13) starting around 4,800 ft. or so. White Pass, at 4,500' was clear, but the snow level was just above it. It looked like Chinook Pass had a good foot or more. Coldwater Peak @ Mt. St. Helens had minor patches on east-facing slopes at around 5,400'. It looked like Mt. Margaret had a bit of a dusting as well.

Today, Oct 16, I was at Three Creeks Lake--elevation about 6500 feet. In the shade there was snow down to the lake shore.

Cascades forecast for this weekend: Snow level 8,000 feet Saturday, dropping to 3,000 by end of day, and then 10-16 inches possible by Sunday evening! Details here. Can we all figure the high mountain hiking season is over now, and we're just waiting for snowshoe season?

We got in one last loop over Mississippi Head today, and it was just spectacular. Dark blue skies from the get-go, then early-afternoon we witnessed the birth of a lenticular over the summit signalling the incoming front. By the time we were back at the lodge, the mountain was nearly socked in. Fabulous end to summer! :D
