Siouxon Creek Trail To Chinook Falls 7.7.13

Post by Eric Peterson » July 8th, 2013, 7:13 am

A totally rare day of getting the entire family on the same page for a day hike, we went to the
Siouxon Creek Trail and out/backed to Chinook Falls -

Have to do a family group shot

Buddy was really enjoying getting into every stream, looking down into West Creek

Too much light all day for Siouxon Falls

Siouxon Creek has many sections with green and blue pools

I kept telling everyone the bridge and then Chinook Falls would be right around the corner, I really
thought it was suppose to be about 3.7 miles or so from the TH, turned out to be over 5 miles

Over 10 miles and 1000' of EG

The nice log that we used for sitting on while snacking next to Chinook Falls used to cross Chinook
Creek but has since been pushed away from crossing so winter fords will be pretty wet ones again.

Great report! I love taking the family out there, been 4 times now although at first I thought you were doing a different section because your pictures looked so much different then mine or my memory...guess that's just because you have a real camera, heh. Are those shoes the new Brooks Cascadia trail runners? Just got those last week myself.

Bammm! Great TR with the whole family taking you up on a loony hike! Yep that area will forever be in my memory for top 5 looniest hikes ever! The log crossing videos of humping across the log or baby balance stepping it were a treat.

You probably hiked right by our campsite!

Looks like you had a great time and I love the photos. A quick tip for improving your photos would be to try the rule of thirds. I just learned about it a couple weeks back and it has made such a difference in my photography! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds

The weather was near perfect for the hike. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the 1/3rds tip! I pretty much just like to point and center shoot! My 16 yo, also on the hike,
has been taking some photography classes and she also mentioned to me yesterday that I should try
using the 1/3rds idea but honestly I'm more into just pointing and sagging right now unless I get
a decent DSLR :)

Nice to see all of you getting out on the trail. Your family is quite an animated bunch, based on the photos. :) That looks like a really nice trail to hike.

Great TR Mr. Petersen.

I follow the "rule of thirds" too, taking lots of photos & hoping a third of them will be worth keeping ;) ..

Hey Hagbard, thanks for the kind remarks sir! :)

Yeah, those are the last generation of Brooks Cascadia's, the 7's, love them a lot and with
the slightly thicker 2 ply Wrightsock - THESE - they work great for me! :)

I tried the Cascadia 8's and the cleats started to tear off after just one moderate average joe
trail hike, so them went right back. The older 7's have a way better cleat design and can still be
found online until supplies are exhausted which I bet will last until the 9's come out next year
and maybe Brooks will go back to the older cleat design...

Best hike ever, to get all 5 of us out on a 10 miler is a miracle!! :)

The log that we used is now washed into a parallel position along Chinook Creek :(
