McNeil Point

Post by zombie » June 30th, 2013, 1:07 pm

Hey everyone!

Was wondering if any of you could let me know what the conditions from Top Spur up to McNeil Point are like snow-wise. I read Turtle's report from the 22nd, but honestly I am not familiar with "Tourist Ridge" or the meadows to know what/where the snow is starting and how bad it is. I'm looking to head up there tomorrow AM. Anyone been up there lately?

Thanks!
Aaron

The snow lasts less than a half mile. There should be plenty of footsteps to follow. When you head up-slope on the snow field stay to the right until you see the climbers route-goat trail-it is snow free to the shelter. You might want to bring traction devices. Have a good trip.

We were up there today, virtually no snow! We have done this hike at this time of year for many years in a row. It's been several years since there was as little snow as this year. The Bear Grass is also performing at way above average levels!

Just up there today, little snow, the trail is quite manageable.

What did the trail towards Cairn Basin look like as far as snow amounts?

Are the flowers on Bald Mountain going strong, or are they already getting baked into oblivion? This heat wave can't be good for that south-facing slope.
