Goat Rocks near Goat Lake/Snowgrass - conditions?

Post by introcosm » August 13th, 2008, 4:00 pm

Hello all,

Some friends and I are considering a 2-night backpack in the Goat Rocks this weekend, either heading up the Snowgrass trail (something like the loop described in the wiki here: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org ... _Loop_Hike) or possibly the Lily Basin trail.

I was wondering if anyone has been up there recently and knows a) what the snow levels are like (I know things have been crazy this year...) and b) whether the bugs will eat us alive!!!

Thanks for the help!

Was up there last week. No problem with Snow except where you normally find it - up at the end of the PCT by Old Snowy. Goat Lake is still about 90% frozen but trail around is passable. Talked with people who had done Goat Ridge and they said no problems. Glorious wildflowers everywhere and they are still coming on strong. Plenty of water. Campsites will be at a premium given how many people head up there on the weekends. Should be fun have a great trip
