hi all,

im thinking of doing the hike up battle ax mountain in the bull of the woods wilderness. does anyone know about snow up that high right now or any reports about the road leading up there? ive heard the last few miles of the road to elk lake is pretty bad, but maybe they have improved it?

I spoke to a Detroit district ranger this morning who advised that the road to Elk Lake is clear and driveable by passenger car. I am skeptical, however, because last summer when I drove it in a saturn sedan, it was too rough. I am hopeful that my focus (better at driving FS roads than the saturn) will make it up there this weekend. He also said that the campground is covered with snow, and the lake partially covered. He said hikers were getting through on the trail.
