Forest Road 4109

Post by andrew » September 20th, 2022, 8:21 pm

Hello! Wondering if anyone has info about current conditions on Forest Road 4109, I searched the site, but the most recent post I could find was from 2011. Sounds like a pretty bad road, just wondering if that's changed in recent years.

Would a Subaru Forester be able to make that drive to Silver Star Mountain?

Thanks everyone!

I can't speak to the condition of the road with any firsthand knowledge but according the the Friends of Road 4109 Facebook group they just did some work on it just a few days ago.

I last drove that road in 2017 with my Outback. At that time it was doable, but it was slow going. There were some very big craters and ditches, including one particularly large ditch.

Yup, they posted "We were able to repair two waterbars, clean a ditch, and remove some more brush from 1/4 mile of road. The road is still in rough shape, but our repairs will help keep it through the rainy season. Thanks to Robert, Jacob, Opal, Ben and Caleb for volunteering!"

Hey Andrew, people in Subaru Foresters do still make it to the trailhead. It takes 25 minutes to get from the junction with road 1100 to the trailhead. There are a number of deep ruts and holes. The most difficult portion is a steep place with some deep holes that is about 1/4 mile up from the junction. If you make it past that, you can expect to make it all the way to the trailhead.

Honda Element can do it, as of June 25.

We went up there today. Slow going but doable. These photos show the worst of it. My partner was nervous and hanging on the whole way! Thank you Friends of 4109 for working on it!
