Muddy Meadows TH road conditions?

Post by TodF » June 28th, 2021, 2:36 pm

Has anyone been to the Muddy Meadows/Foggy Flats TH (Mt. Adams) recently? Wondering if a 2wd passenger car could get there. Thanks!

I went to Killen Creek Campground last year, about a mile from muddy meadows TH

I drove 2WD pickup. Not the best of roads, but doable in regular vehicle.

The last 1/4 mile spur from 2329 to the TH is a really garbage road. Drove it a few years ago and it was deep ruts that would high-center my car if I made one wrong move. And muddy! Had to stay on the high side and got a couple scratches from branches. Definitely wouldn’t take my newer car up there now.

I’d recommend parking at Keenes and walking the extra 1/4 mile or so.

Yeah, I go every year in my Subie, but there are deep parallel wheel ruts on either side, been that way for years. Might be safer to park a real low clearance vehicle on 2329 as teachpdx says.

Even the high section of 2329 where it passes Divide Camp TH can be rough early in the season. That section usually smooths out over the summer.

Not "recently", but did the drive a few times last November. I specifically recall thinking it could be done in a Civic, but wouldn't be pleasant. I don't think damage would be inevitable, just take it easy.
Regarding the final 1/4 mile: I didn't find it that much worse than the main road, but as often happens, the dilemma is the horror of wishing you hadn't done it, but there's no turnaround. So yeah, not a bad idea to walk that last bit, if there's any question. I'm almost certain there's ample parking opportunities at the junction.

Thanks, everyone! I was told elsewhere that the mosquitoes are really terrible up there right now, so I'm looking for other options so my wife doesn't kill me :)

Were you told that by somebody who was just there?

There's just one thing that can ruin a fun hike even more than mosquitoes.
