Adventurous kid-friendly hikes in the La Grande area

Post by ligeti42 » June 21st, 2021, 8:34 am

Hi all,

We are spending the week around La Grande, and I'm seeking out some interesting kid-friendly hikes in the area. The criteria for my intrepid seven-year-old hiker: within an hour's drive of La Grande, between 2-6 miles and less than 1,000' elevation gain, and not crowded. Here's a few ideas I've come up with based on this site and the Sullivan book:

Crawfish Lake
Oregon Trail Interpretive Center loop
Wallowa River rail trail
Anthony Lake (may be too crowded for us)

I'd welcome other ideas you might have, especially those with unique points of interest (natural or otherwise). Thanks for your help!

Matthew
