On google earth I see a Goat Mountain SE of Mt St Helens, near Goat Marsh Research Natural Area. I do not see any hiking guides for this mountain but it looks very interesting as a destination. Does anyone know if this has a trail or is hikable? Location 46°09'47"N 122°18'04"W · 4,786 ft

You can drive to this spot on road 470 and walk several yards east to locate the Fossil trail and find a user trail to the top after walking north a short distance on the Fossil trail. Or you can hike to the same user trail on the Fossil trail from road 81 where the Fossil trail intersects road 81.

When I did this hike a few years ago, I found road 8117 (how to get to road 470) to be marginally washed out. I couldn't even get 100 feet on road 470 due to another deeper washout. My car was a VW Jetta. A high clearance truck would have made it. I have no idea about the roads today. If I was to do it again, I'd hike in from road 81. The extra distance is not so bad considering how short the user trail to the top of Goat Mtn is.

The user trail is steep and obvious.

I believe it's the Cowlitz County highpoint, so it is popular with highpointers. There is a Summitpost entry by Don Nelson.
